Bird Arrested After Parking Lot Nap

(MIDLAND,ON) A member of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment while on patrol noted a vehicle parked in a no parking section of a business parking lot on County Road 93, Midland at approximately 1:07 pm April 5, 2024.
There appeared to be a person asleep behind the steering wheel and upon further investigation by the officer, the lone occupant was arrested for impaired driving and an investigation at Detachment was conducted to confirm the officers observations.
As a result, Mitchell BIRD 25-years-of Midland has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 18, 2024, was served a 90 day drivers licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
Detachment patrol officers set up eight Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs checking 180 drivers for signs of impairment over the April 5-8, 2024 time frame in an effort to increase road safety here in North Simcoe.
